I am a historian of Britain at NYU.

I studied modern European history at Northwestern. My work intersects with urban history, intellectual history, and the history of science.

I’m especially interested in the history of political culture, and have written about meritocracy and technocracy, radicalism and social democracy, neo-conservatism and neo-liberalism.

I’m currently reading a lot of British historical writing since the nineteenth century. How did this national frame of reference deal with scales and connections that far exceed the nation?

I am currently the chair of the Department of History at NYU.
