I studied modern European history at Northwestern. My research and teaching intersect with urban history, intellectual history, and the history of science.
I’m especially interested in political cultures, and have written about meritocracy and technocracy, radicalism and social democracy, neo-conservatism and neo-liberalism.
I’m currently working on British historical writing since the nineteenth century. How did this national frame of reference deal with scales and connections that far exceed the nation?
